The Comptroller of New York State has met with representatives from Kernel Capital and principals in portfolio companies in Bank of Ireland’s Kernel Capital Venture Funds.

Thomas P DiNapoli manages New York state’s estimated $192 billion pension fund, audits the spending practices of all NY state agencies and local governments, and approves billions in contracts and spending.

One of the funds he oversees is an investor in the Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Growth Fund (NI), via Washington-based fund manager 57 Stars, which is  a management arm of the New York State Common Retirement Fund.

This fund invests in Northern Ireland companies and during his visit DiNapoli received an honorary doctorate from the University of Ulster, recognising both NY state’s investments in Northern Ireland and Comptroller DiNapoli’s support for the Irish peace process.

Kernel Capital is an independent manager of the Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Venture Funds, made up of €210m of funds raised through six separate venture capital funds.

The European Regional Development Fund supports Invest NI’s engagement in the Kernel Capital Growth Fund under the EU Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme 2014-2020.
